Firstly, ‘niche’ is relative to 1.4 billion or even 7 billion people, not the small group of dozens you imagine (the BB forum has few active users because most people can’t produce high-quality output like those big shots, not because no one is watching).
Moreover, damn it, are a few people not part of society? Why is it that only the macroscopic has meaning?

Even so, the DS aspect remains somewhat abstract. The demise of the BB forum definitely had nothing to do with things like Bismarck or Jutland (after all, it’s been over ten years); most likely, someone in the off-topic section discussed sensitive political topics. But if someone wanted to set up another one now, just the ‘forum’ aspect, would it be able to get approval?

By the way, as far as I know, a forum was indeed successfully established recently. I remember linux.do only appeared last year, and it’s still accessible within the Great Firewall.
